HIV+ Speaker’s Bureau
AIDS Project Rhode Island has a staff of HIV-positive Rhode Islanders who are trained to speak to classes and groups about the life challenges faced by people living with the virus. The speakers discuss how they found out their HIV status and the changes that they have had to make in their lives because of their diagnosis. To schedule a speaker, click here. This program is a free service however donations are accepted to defray the cost of speaker stipends and materials.
HIV 101 Workshops
We also have a trained staff that is available to conduct HIV 101 workshops for groups of any size. These interactive workshops include the basics of what HIV is, how the virus is transmitted, strategies for staying safe, and an overview of other sexually transmitted diseases. Toll Free HIV/AIDS/STD Informational Hotline
AIDS Project RI and AIDS Action Committee of Boston formed a collaboration in January 2005 to continue operation of the Rhode Island HIV/AIDS/STD Hotline. Trained staff and volunteers are available Monday through Friday 9am-9pm and Saturday 10-2pm to answer questions about HIV, AIDS, and STDs and make referrals to local HIV and STD testing sites, HIV care, and other resources. Brochure and Safer Sex Kit Distribution
We are happy to make available to schools, community groups, local businesses, and individuals free written materials regarding HIV and STD’s as well as safer sex tools such as male and female condoms, lubricants, and dental dams. Bilingual Community Outreach
Our Latino community health educator provides culturally and linguistically appropriate HIV/AIDS information and skills building workshops for members of the Hispanic/Latino community. The health educator conducts workshops, home-based safety net parties and radio programs. Outreach is also provided at health fairs, bars and other community events. For more information, click here
Sexperts Online Outreach
AIDS Project RI provides outreach and education online for men who have sex with men in gay-identified chat rooms and websites. Our Internet Outreach Coordinator is available to answer questions about HIV/STDs and make referrals to local services. For more information about the Sexperts program, click here
Sexperts Men's Health Workshops
The Men’s Health Education Coordinator provides health education and outreach services to local men who have sex with men. The coordinator organizes quarterly workshops addressing relevant sexual health topics and provides information and materials at community events and venues.
